# Competitor tracking

> See which brands AI assistants name on your Genseo prompts, compare share of voice, and spot category leaders per platform.

For each tracked prompt, Genseo captures **which other brands** appear in AI answers. That competitor set can change by platform (ChatGPT vs Gemini vs AI Overviews) and over time.

## What to look at

* **Share of voice**: How often competitors appear compared to your brand on the same prompt.
* **Top competitors**: Names that recur across prompts (category leaders, challengers, marketplaces).
* **Prompt-level detail**: Open one prompt to see competitor mentions on the latest run.

Use competitors to prioritize positioning, comparison pages, and prompts you still need to track.

## Connect to action

| Insight | Typical action |
| - | - |
| Competitor cited, you are not | Improve authoritative pages and [citations](/visibility/citations-and-sources) |
| Competitor mentioned, weak sentiment | Refine messaging and proof points |
| You appear but visibility drops | Check [trends](/visibility/prompt-tracking) and site [issues](/product/site-health) |

Add competitors in brand settings where the app supports explicit competitor lists; tracking still discovers brands models mention at runtime.

## ChatGPT and API

Ask ChatGPT (with the [Genseo app](/developers/chatgpt)) to summarize competitors for a selected project using stored data. Developers use `genseo_visibility_overview` and related tools. See [Public API](/developers/public-api).
