# Citations and sources

> Find which domains and URLs AI models cite for your Genseo prompts, and prioritize pages and sources that win citations.

When AI assistants answer with sources, Genseo records **cited domains and URLs** tied to tracking runs. That shows which sites models treat as evidence for your category, not only whether your brand is named.

## Why citations matter

* Models often **trust pages they cite** even when your brand is mentioned weakly.
* Competitors may win via **documentation, reviews, or listicles** you do not control yet.
* Your own URLs may be cited inconsistently across [platforms](/visibility/tracking-platforms).

## How to use the data

1. Sort or filter top cited sources on the visibility overview.
2. Open a prompt to see citations on the latest stored response.
3. Compare citations when your [visibility](/visibility/prompt-tracking) is flat but competitors rise.
4. Feed gaps into [Opportunities](/product/opportunities) or content plans.

## Improve citation share

* Publish clear, citable pages (definitions, comparisons, data) on your domain.
* Fix crawl and on-page blockers surfaced in [Site health](/product/site-health).
* Earn mentions on sources models already cite (where appropriate for your brand).

## Agents

Use read-only visibility tools in chat; do not invent citation URLs. [Agent guidelines](/developers/agent-guidelines).
