# MCP server overview

> Connect ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude, and other clients to Genseo at api.genseo.co/mcp with OAuth or API keys.

Genseo exposes a hosted **MCP server** so AI assistants can read visibility, site health, and content data, and run allowlisted writes when you approve them.

```text theme={null}
```

## Apps and clients

| Client | Status |
| - | - |
| [ChatGPT app](/developers/chatgpt) | Live (OAuth) |
| [Cursor, Claude, and others](/chatgpt/more-ai-clients) | Same MCP endpoint; marketplace rollouts planned |

## Setup paths

* **End users**: Install the ChatGPT app or your client's connector, then complete [OAuth](/developers/oauth).
* **Developers**: Configure [MCP Server](/developers/mcp) with OAuth or a project API key, or use the [plugin package](/developers/plugins).

One project per chat: list projects, pick a `project_id`, and include it on every project tool call.

## REST alternative

Custom backends can use the [Public API](/developers/public-api) on the **Developers** tab without MCP.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the Genseo MCP server URL?

`https://api.genseo.co/mcp` (Streamable HTTP). ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude, and other MCP hosts use this endpoint.

### Do I need an API key for ChatGPT?

No. The [ChatGPT app](/developers/chatgpt) uses OAuth in the browser. API keys are for local developer installs, CI, or custom backends.

### Why must I pick one project per chat?

Every project tool requires an explicit `project_id`. OAuth can list all account projects, but Genseo never merges data across projects in one call.

### Is Genseo MCP the same as prompt tracking in ChatGPT?

No. Prompt tracking platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews) are what Genseo **measures** for visibility. The MCP server is how **you** connect an assistant to your Genseo account to read that data or run allowlisted actions.
